I was so pleasantly surprised to see that I was nominated by none other than The Shameful Narcissist for The One Lovely Blog Award! 🙂 Special thanks for the nomination. I really do appreciate it. 🙂 Her blog is a fun and well-worded medley of her love for retro video games, fantasy, books, her own reviews/fan fiction, and more! Her passion for these things shines through in her well-worded posts. I highly recommend checking her blog out!
Although I had never heard of The One Lovely Blog Award until I was nominated for it, I can really get behind what it stands for. Those nominated share a few interesting facts about themselves and then nominate others to do so as well. As said by The Shameful Narcissist: “It creates a potentially never ending cycle of sharing and positivity, something there can never be enough of in the world.” I couldn’t agree more. With all the negativity out there, we could use a little more fun and love out there for one another.
The Official Rules of this Award go as such:
-
Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
-
List the rules and display the award.
-
Nominate 6-10 bloggers to receive this award.
-
State 7 facts about yourself.
So, without further ado, here are 7 random tidbits about yours truly.
Fact #1: I have what is often described as a “young” sounding voice. It makes doing most vocal impressions difficult for me, but I have a couple that I am quite proud of. One is the titular character of Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo when she gets excited and screams “HAM!” and the other is that I can do a mean impression of a Murloc from World of Warcraft. It isn’t much, but you work with whatcha got! 😛
Fact #2: When I was a kid my first little girl crush was on David Bowie in Labyrinth. I regret nothing!!
Fact #3: I have a cat who is my furry little minion. Her name is Bailey and I love her beyond measure. I call her by like a thousand nicknames. Some are plays on her name like “Bailbo Baggins” or “Peter Bail-ish”. Others are things like “Chub Cat”, “Pound Cake”, or “Chubkins”. She is a cheeseburger cat.
Fact #4: I love learning. My favorite subjects are history, mythology and folklore, anatomy and physiology, and marine biology, but I love to research a wide variety of different subjects. I adore museums and libraries. If schooling was more affordable I would probably be enrolled in classes until the day I die.
Fact #5: My favorite holiday is Halloween! What’s not to love? The spooky fun, costumes, candy, scary stories and movies, pumpkin carving, apple orchards for cider and donuts, the list just goes on and on and on for me. It’s also the highlight of my favorite season: autumn.
Fact #6: I love sharks. There are so many kinds and so many interesting things to learn about them all. They truly are amazing creatures. They’re just fascinating. My favorite species is probably the whale shark. They’re gentle giants.
Fact #7: I am very passionate about people learning first aid and CPR. Sounds weird, I know, but these are easy things to learn that can literally save a life. I took my first CPR and First Aid class in 2009 and I remember as we learned the Heimlich maneuver thinking, I’ll probably never use this, but I guess it’s good to know. I kid you not, the following weekend I was out to dinner with my ex and his family and his great uncle began choking on his dinner. And I don’t mean he was coughing like crazy kind of choking, I mean his windpipe was completely blocked off and he could not breathe or even make a sound because of the food lodged in his throat. My ex’s step-mother noticed his situation just before I did and saved him by preforming the Heimlich on him at the table. A couple years ago, I myself was choking but there was no on there who could help me, so using a chair, I performed it on myself and saved myself. That was empowering to say the least. If I hadn’t known how to do it, I can say with almost certainty that I would not be here today. It’s a humbling thought how easily things can end if you are not able to take matters into your own hands when needed. I feel like these are things students should learn in school and that should be much more widely taught to the public.
So, there’s my 7 facts about me! 🙂 I tried to think a little outside the box with these since I’ve covered other more general facts about myself already in my blog. Thanks again to The Shameful Narcissist for the nomination. If you hadn’t already just completed this fact challenge I would have your blog on my list of nominees as well. 😀
I nominate:
Awww! Thanks for the nom! That’s very cool of you! OH… And congratulations! 🙂

Fact 3 made me smile. Fact 2 made both of us smile, my fiance also has similar sentiments toward the late great Mr Bowie.
Thank you very much for choosing to include me and my works in this process, you have my gratitude. Your nomination was fully deserved.

Thank you so much for your extra kind words *blushes* I was happy to nominate your lovely blog as per the award 🙂
A young sounding voice is great for a variety of characters! That is if you ever did want to get into voice acting. That’s one of my many pipe dreams hehe.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a David Bowie crush although I do cackle at the fact that there are websites dedicated to a, um, particular quite prominent part. Omg I’m giggling so hard right now.
Kitty minions are the best kind of minions and omg she’s adorable. I want to snuggle her so badly.
I’m torn between Halloween and Christmas, the latter not because I’m overly religious (agnostic over here), but more for the memories, nostalgia, sehnsucht the time of the year brings up. Halloween is a much simpler pleasure in my head. Christmas is complicated.
I have another shark loving friend whom we refer to as Tree Shark lol. It’s a play on her real name Trisha, but you can google Tree Shark and not be disappointed :p
It definitely seems like that CPR could’ve come in handy, and there’s nothing wrong with being prepared to save someone’s life!

Thank you! 🙂 That’s really cool that you have dreams of voice acting. It is something I have considered before too. I just worried that my young voice would be too limiting, so your words are quite encouraging! I actually almost pursued it once by auditioning for the voice of Bee in Bee and PuppyCat but was hit with a bad case of strep throat and didn’t end up sending in an audition. Sigh . . . the one time in my life I got strep throat. It was a total bummer. 😦
Haha and yeah, I look back at the movie Labyrinth sometimes and wonder how a certain part *ahem* went right over my head as a kid. lol Oh, the innocent minds of children.
Christmas is definitely growing on me again. I totally get the nostalgia feeling you mentioned. I think I used to let it stress me out too much. Cupcakes and Machetes is a Christmas lover too and she’s helped me be less of a Grinch the last couple years. 😛
Also, totally googled tree shark. lol

I can think of so many roles that would require a youthful voice! Any young protagonist or a cartoon and there are plenty of those available. You figure many young male characters are voiced by women. I’m dating myself in thinking of Bart Simpson, but you know what I mean lol.
Ack…I’ve been in a similar situation with auditioning for choir in college. Mine was for a far lazier reason though. I always forgot about the audition, and by the time I remembered, I was rushing to the music building. Being out of breath and singing are poor bedfellows (I’m also asthmatic to boot so it takes longer for me to catch my breath), and it was only a three minute audition so there was someone immediately behind you.
Hold on…one of my cosplay friends does like the PERFECT Jareth and she’s 100% accurate if you know what I mean *giggles* http://ferasha.deviantart.com/art/You-re-him-the-Goblin-King-aren-t-you-634848742
I hated Christmas for quite a few years, but now I consider myself a Christmas Goth lol. I enjoy the decorating and the cookie making…if I have energy to do it. At the very least it’s an excuse for me to make cookies and fudge and not feel bad about being a fat ass 😀

Omg! That Jareth cosplay is amazing! haha and she definitely has an eye for detail! ;P
Very good points about the opportunities out there for young sounding voices. I guess I always assumed you would have to have a wide range of voices in your arsenal to do it. You are absolutely right though! 🙂
Yeah, singing out of breath would be hard indeed. Especially when asthma is thrown into the mix on top of everything! That’s too bad.
Hahaha and yay for holiday sweets! 😀

I love that cosplayer. I found her because she also does Sephiroth (who’s my favorite) and we started talking. She also does Game of Thrones characters. She gave me some tips for, er, chest binding since I’m quite busty. I think I’m just going to wear a corset like I saw another Deviant Artist do! Most of the cosplay community (at least the ones I’ve run into) are ridiculously nice.
There’s a niche for everything! It helps your prospects in certain venues to have a wide range, but you can find need for everything! I think I may still have a link to a voice acting thing my friend sent me if you’re interested. I didn’t do it (yet, time constraints and what), but I believe you just create a profile, say what you can do, and people can find you. There’s quite a demand for people to do audio readings for books 🙂
And i did it every year I tried out! It’s like it was physically impossible for me to be on time. Oh well.

Wait…you love sharks?!? Ok…I have something for you then. I am the costume designer for Sharknado 3 and 5 and I have some posters and pins left over from a huge party/giveaway I did. Would you be interested in some free silly sharknado swag?

Okay! Thank you so much! 🙂 I have never actually PM’d anyone on here before, do I just do so on your page that says “contact” or would that display it as a public comment? lol Sorry I’m still learning some things on this site. 😛

I think using the contact me button is private. Send a test message with no private info and we will test it out. I’m new at this too! 🙂
