June’s Pick For The Happiest Reading Challenge

If you’re taking part in The Happiest Reading Challenge you know that June calls for reading “a book someone has recommend to you“. It didn’t take long to decide on what book I would read for this month’s part of the challenge. Like some of you guys, book and baked good blogger Cupcakes and Machetes has been throwing book upon book into my TBR mountain for quite some time. One of these books is The Lies of Locke Lamora (Book 1 of the Gentleman Bastard series), written by Scott Lynch.

“An orphan’s life is harsh–and often short–in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly.

Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game–or die trying…”

Sounds pretty good to me! 😉

Epic fantasy is always a plus in my book. It also helps when it passes the C&M seal of approval. And by seal of approval, I mean she was willing to bare-knuckle fight anyone in a mud pit that had the audacity to say that Scott Lynch wasn’t a “fantastic fucking author.”

I’m really excited to finally read this one. 🙂 I hear it is a seriously amazing debut from Scott Lynch. It’ll be nice to get to experience it for myself after hearing so many good things.

So, how about you? Reading anything good right now, or taking part in any reading challenges of your own? I’d love to hear about it! It’s always nice to talk about good books. 🙂

  1. Still reading Wonder Woman Rebirth (no surprise there then!) Batman and DC Bombshells, alongside Batwoman Rebirth… which is soooooo good! I know you love the character my friend, so you will definitely need to pick it up. And I just recently finished the Sandman Overture graphic novel… blown away by it!!

    1. Ooh, nice reads you got going on. Yeah, I really want to get my hands on Batwoman Rebirth. Hopefully soon! 🙂 I’m glad to hear it’s so good!
And yay, Bombshells! 😀 Where are you so far? I’d like to get volume 3 soon. I’ve really been enjoying it so far.

  3. *wild maniacal laughter* I tempt all the good people of Earth with books and baked goods and then if they don’t agree with me, we bare knuckle box it bitches! (I’m definitely going to have to steal that furby meme lmfao.)
My book I won from Goodreads finally came so I’m hoping to start that tonight. 🙂

  4. I could feel your excitement bouncing off my iPhone screen as I read your words haha. As I’m 85 years old I nod off in my armchair as soon as I start reading books these days haha. I have sooooo many I want to read. I want to re-read my James Herbert collection. Do you know him? Sadly he passed away a few years ago but if you like horror at all he’s your man. I’ve never read a bad book of his and there are lots.

    1. Ooh, I was not familiar with that author by name but when I looked him up I saw that he’d written The Fog (I’ve seen the John Carpenter film, but never read the book). I’d recently heard very good things about that book though, and the movie really creeped me out as a kid, so those things combined with your recommendation officially have me adding it to my TBR list! 😀 One of the months in this reading challenge I’m doing even calls for a book that takes place in a country I’ve never been to, so it’ll fit perfectly for it! 🙂 Thanks for the heads up!! I’m excited to have a new (to me, anyway) writer to check out!

  5. Sounds like a great read! I’m not taking part in the reading challenge, but I am challenging myself to finally finish Dark Blood. I’ve had this book for what seems an eternity and still have not been able to find time to read. I’m trying to finish the book by mid month so fingers crossed. I have some new books that I want to start, but I can’t until this one is completed lol. Have a great weekend!

    1. Good luck with your reading! 🙂 It’s hard not having as much time to read as we would wish to have. We need little clones of ourselves strictly designated to doing all our reading. lol Hope you’re having a great weekend too!! 😀

  6. I actually managed to slay my Goodreads reading challenge already for 2017. I only had 15 books on the list since I fell short of 20 last year, but since I’ve been aggressively reading, I think I’m on like 24 read at this point hehe. I have a list of blogger recommendations, too! CaM has contributed at least a quarter of them 😀

    1. Haha, yeah, she seems to be an expert at that, doesn’t she? 😛
Nice! Congrats on already conquering your GR reading challenge! And you still have the entire second half of the year to go! Well done. 😀
