“How I Choose My Books” Tag!

Oops! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything. I’ve been pretty busy, but I was lucky enough to be tagged by the awesome conqueror of books, Birdie Bookworm, so here we are! 😀 Thank you again so much for tagging me! This looked too fun to pass up. I’m normally really bad about getting back around to doing tags and awards, so this time I’m getting right on it!

Also, be sure to check out the Birdie Bookworm blog. It’s a great one, and deserves to get lots of love! 🙂

Since my bookshelves contain books AND comics/graphic novels, my answers will be sort of a mixed bag. I love comics, so there’s no way I’m leaving them out. 😛

1. Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a blue cover.
What made you want to pick up this book?

Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues by Diana Rowland. I actually didn’t pick this one up myself. It was a gift from a friend since we’d read the first book in the series together in our book club. I’m looking forward to reading it though since I enjoyed the first one called My Life as a White Trash Zombie.

2. Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did.
Why did you read it in the first place?

the-girl-with-all-the-gifts-2

I really enjoyed reading The Girl with All the Gifts, but I had no idea of what to expect from it when I first picked it up. A friend of mine had been strongly recommending it and singing its praises up and down without actually telling me ANYTHING about it. Which I’m glad she didn’t, because this one definitely benefited from going into it blind. I was hopeful I would like it when I read it, but I literally had no idea what to expect. Thankfully, it was a good read! 🙂

3. Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick up a book at random.
How did you discover this book?

47730

One of my few books of poems. 🙂 I’d read and enjoyed Anne Sexton’s Transformations years ago, so I got this one so I could read more of her work.

4. Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you.
What did you think of it?

got

Cupcakes and Machetes quite literally shoved this book at me and demanded I read it a while back. I’m so glad she did. It introduced me to not only one of my favorite authors, but my favorite series as well. Kudos to you, C&M. You have yet to lead me astray with any book suggestions. 😀

5. Pick a book that you discovered through YouTube / book blogs.
Did it live up to the hype?

I first heard about Giant Days in a nifty post from The Brunette Bookworm Blog a while back and heeded her advice, picking up a copy of volume 1. It did not disappoint! 🙂 In fact, I really liked it! I’m currently reading volume 2 at the moment as well.

6. Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a one-word title.
What drew you to this book?

Monstress_Vol1-1

Volume 1 of Monstress. Hands down what drew me to this was the gorgeous artwork. Each and every panel is a work of art.

7. What book did you discover through a film / TV adaptation?

ltroi

I read Let the Right One In a while back, after seeing (and absolutely loving) the film. I’ve never watched the American remake, so I can’t say anything about that one, but I was instantly drawn in when I watched the original Swedish horror film. Usually I prefer to read the books before watching any movie/TV adaptations, but I’m glad I was able to see the film first in this case since it introduced me to the novel.

8. Think of your all-time favorite book/s.
When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?

Bookset

As if there were any doubt: A Song of Ice and Fire!!! My favorite books (and show) to geek out about. No doubt about it. I wanna say I began reading these in 2011 if memory serves right. There was no option of going back after that. 😛 As I mentioned in a previous answer, Cupcakes is totally to blame for this obsession. lol

  1. Great tag! Enjoyed reading your choices. If I ever read Game of Thrones it’ll be a miracle. I hope to get to them one of these days! 🙂 ♡ Nice job on this! 😉

  2. Great answers! I read My Life as a White Trash Zombie too, and I already have Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues, but I never actually started. It’s funny now, because the books remind me a lot of iZombie. (Which I didn’t even know was a comic before the show started.)

    1. Thanks! 😀 I keep hearing such great things about that show. Both my boyfriend and my best friend are convinced I’d love it. I should really get around to watching it some time. lol
I watched something before on youtube that said that the show was more like White Trash Zombie than the comic of the same name (plot-wise and whatnot). 🙂

    1. Haha I have been LOVING the latest episodes. Omg, this season has had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through so far. 🙂 I can’t wait for this week’s episode. Things are gonna get CRAZY! It’s been so weird going into this season totally blind too since we’re completely ahead of the books at this point. Very thrilling! 😀

      1. The leaks are ridiculous. One of my BFFs (the other one as opposed to the one I mentioned in my last comment lol) downloaded the latest episode to watch it before she was spoiled. My husband wound up reading something on YouTube, because people don’t know how to NOT put spoilers in a title. Luckily all of the people I follow are good about that. They’ll at least put that they’re going to talk about the leaked episode. I just know something huge happens, but I don’t know what. I’m just hoping it’s good. I’m really worried that Cersei is going to try some Red Wedding 2.0 shenanigans, and I’m hoping Dany will be one step ahead of her.

      2. Oh, yikes! Now I’m going to be even more on the edge of my seat this season. lol Yeah, I hate people that post spoilers right in the title of things. Total dick move. I’ll probably rampage through the city if I have it spoiled for me. 😛

      3. There are only two more episodes left, and the next one is on in a few minutes (at least in my timezone hehe). My BFF watched it, but she’s not a butt, so didn’t reveal anything to me. I can’t wait to finally see it though. Apparently huge things happen.

      4. I was so upset. I’ve also been pretty harshly critiquing the show on Facebook Live lol. I’m…not impressed with the Stark sister feud. It just feels shoehorned in in order to have some kind of conflict, but it doesn’t make any sense, and why in the world did they think they needed to get a wight?? I’m going to try to withhold judgment until the finale…which should be visually stunning at the least!

      5. My guess (hope) is the Stark sisters are playing Littlefinger at this point. Like he thinks he’s one step ahead of them like he is so often with everyone else, but this time they’re the ones toying with him. 🙂 I may be wrong, but it just seems so forced and ridiculous of a feud that I’m hoping there’s more to it than a simple petty fight. I can’t wait for tonight’s episode though either. 😀 It’s hard to believe it’s season finale time already. I know it was a shorter season than normal, but damn, it really did go by fast!

      6. That’s what I’m hoping. Well, we’ll find out in about half an hour (at least in my time zone hehe). The episode is slated to be 80 minutes long o.O I’m hoping that’s what it is, because if not, it’s some pretty poor writing where the show runners completely forgot about details from past seasons.

      7. Oh my goodness, it really has been a hot minute since I’ve logged onto WP! lol I feel so behind getting to read this comment now. 😛 Yeah, I’m definitely glad things played out how they did. That season finale, though! It’s torture having to wait to see what’s going to happen now.

  3. Interesting choices. We just set up a new library. Half of this library contains horro novels, warhammer stuff and books on music and war. The other half is true crime and vampire academy and stories about people who have gone through tragedies. Guess what is my selection and what is my wife’s selection haha.

    1. Hahaha Gee, I wonder . . . 😛
I’m so jealous you guys have an entire library!! One day when I finally settle into one spot I look forward to having a library. I pretty much always wind up moving around every couple of years, so I’ve parted with many beloved books throughout that time unfortunately. I’ve become somewhat of a minimalist in a lot of ways due to all the moving around. Packing is the worst. 😛

  4. Great post! Some of these books like Giant Days and Monstress are on my TBR list. Also, I want to start reading the Game of Thrones book, hopefully by the end of the year I can start ( I have a book-log at the moment that I’m trying to stick to lol).

    1. Thank you! 😀 Giant Days and Monstress were both really good. 🙂 Especially Monstress, omg that comic is gorgeous and awesome. My boyfriend just picked up volume 2 for me so I’m really looking forward to seeing where the story goes next. 😀
That’s so exciting that you’re thinking about reading the ASOIAF books!! 😀 It’s such a good (and addicting) series.
