December Updates

Hello, everybody! It seems I fell off the map there for a bit, but it’s only because things have been extremely busy and especially chaotic this month. Things are slowly, ever so slowly, getting back to normal just as the year comes to a close. Between my personal life and work life I’ve pretty much been in caregiver mode 24/7 and have been feeling burnt out by it, but luckily I have a nice little vacation coming up to hopefully squeeze some rest in and enjoy the holidays. 🙂

That said, here are just some random updates of what’s been going on as of late.

Update #1: Due to the previously mentioned craziness, I missed out on my book club’s Christmas party this year which was a total bummer. We always wear ugly Christmas sweaters and I had been so pumped to show off my new R2-D2 one. All is not lost, though, since I’m planning on wearing Christmas sweaters to work the rest of this week, so I can proudly display that one, my Deadpool one, and my “Bah Hum-Pug” one. One day I hope to have amassed enough ugly Christmas sweaters to be able to wear one each day of December leading up to Christmas. Mwahaha!

Update #2: I recently reached my goal of 45 books read for the year, though I’ll admit a lot of them were graphic novels. 😛 This was quite the busy year. I’m upping my goal for next year though and aiming for 50 this time. I’ve even made a list of some of the priority titles I’m looking to read in 2018. Some are new, some old, some are novels, graphic novels, and there are even a few poetry collections in there, too. It should be a pretty interesting year in reading for me. 🙂

Update #3: I’m seriously thinking about pampering myself during this time off by going to get my hair done. Planning on getting it chopped and colored. Thinking of throwing some purple and/or blue in the mix. It’s been too long since I’ve put any fun colors in it and I’m feeling like it’s a good way to kick off the new year!

Update #4: Started doodling again. Planning on doodling more in the new year. These are just 2 rough sketches with some highlighter and sharpie thrown in, but I’m hoping to really get back into it in 2018. Maybe even hook up my art tablet again. It’s been a while.

Update #5: I recently got awarded Employee of the Quarter (quarter of the year) at my job. I was really surprised since I’ve only been there a little over 6 months. Woo!

So, that’s it for my little updates. Hope you guys have all been well. I’ll be catching up on your posts to see what all has been going on. Feel free to fill me in on any exciting updates of your own. I’d love to hear about them. 🙂

  1. Busy times – Sorry you had to miss out on the book club’s Christmas party, but it sounds like you’re still in the festive spirit donning Christmas jumpers for this week (a Deadpool one sounds awesome, even I’d go for one of those). Cool doodles, and congrats on Employee of The Quarter, very impressive and certainly an excuse to celebrate! 🙂

  2. It’s always tough to squeeze everything in this time of year. I want to see your new R2-D2 Sweater! The only ugly Christmas sweater I have is one with the Grinch on it. I’d love to get a collection going. Your drawings are so fabulous! I always look forward to seeing new ones. Just in case I don’t get a chance to say this later in the week, Merry Christmas! I hope you have a lovely time off!🎄🤶🏻🎅🏻

  3. Congrats on the award! It says something about your work ethic. Hmm I might implement employee of the month at my work which will be great because I am a sole trader and will always win it yayyyy!!!! The pictures are great. Glad to hear you’ll be doing more in ’18. Can you pretty please with Christmas cake on top post a picture of you in the R2-D2 Christmas jumper???? If you’re too shy then just the jumper will be fine. Have fun with your hair. I used to dye my hair when I was a young punk but then when I started going grey I stopped because I didn’t want people to think I was dying it to hide the grey haha. I like my greys. It makes me look smarter/wiser than I actually am haha

    1. Thank you! Haha I love the idea of you always being winner of the Employee of the Month. You’d have to make it extra over the top by hanging big 8×10 framed photos of yourself all over a wall dedicated to EotM winners. 😛
Haha I’ll try to pop a pic up with the R2-D2 sweater. I took a couple with my camera before the Christmas party at work, so I’ll just have to get them off there when I’m back at home next. 🙂

      1. Haha I avoid photos of myself at the best of times, especially large ones. I’m happy to be in or take silly photos of myself but I can’t stand posing for them with that fake smile people do hehe. The only “normal” photo I’ve ever liked of myself is one of me laughing. I genuinely look happy rather than that “say cheese or smile” haha. Pleeeeease do the R2-D2 sweater pic!!!! It’ll make all my Christmas wishes come true hehe

  4. Ooooo, can’t wait to see that hair! You missed my Stranger Things Christmas sweater. D: That’s okay, I’ll just have to send a pic. 😉
Wooo for drawing again and Wooo for a reading plan! I’m hoping this next year is less hectic and full of good stuff for the both of us. ❤

    1. Thanks! I can’t wait to get it done. I’ve been so bored with my hair lately.
Aw, you got a Stranger Things sweater? That’s awesome. I’ll definitely need to see that. 🙂
I agree with your hopes for the new year. I hope we both have an amazing year! ❤

  5. Lmao!! That is a great Christmas sweater goal! And now you’ve made me seriously want to see your collection lol. Congratulations on reaching your book goal, and Employee award! What were some of your favourites this year? Also, those are some great doodles! I recently picked up sketching again, it’s cool to hear I’m not the only one.

    1. Thank you! 😀
Ooh, good question! I read some really good novels and graphic novels. For graphic novels, I’d say my favorite reads this year were all the volumes of Saga I read, the first volume of Rat Queens and vol. 1 and 2 of Monstress. As for regular novels, I really enjoyed reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls by Emilie Autumn, Golden Son by Pierce Brown, and I’m still chipping away at Strange the Dreamer as I find time, and absolutely LOVING it. 🙂 Thanks for asking! What were some of your favorite reads this year? Glad to hear you’re picking up drawing again, too. Hopefully we’ll both have a great new year in drawing and reading. ❤

      1. You’re welcome!
I love Saga! I haven’t read past Volume 4 because I’m so scared of cliffhangers between the publication of the trades. Would you say that it’s safe to continue reading up to volume 7? I have been wanting to read Strange the Dreamer since I heard about it because Laini Taylor’s writing, stories and the worlds she develops are outstanding! I’m going to be doing a post about my favs for the year so I’ve been really thinking about which books/series to choose, but you know me and indecisiveness lol. Off the top of my head I’d say Written in Red series by Anne Bishop, Half Bad series by Sally Green, and If I Was your Girl by Meredith Russo are in my top ten for sure.

      2. Yeah, the cliffhangers in Saga can be rough ones, that’s for sure. I will say that waiting for vol. 8 has been torturous. It will be out very, very soon though, so I think you’re good to start reading and then by the time you’re caught up, you’ll be able to hurry onto volume 8. 🙂
I love Laini Taylor’s writing, too. She’s fantastic and so damn creative. ❤ I think you'll love Strange the Dreamer when you get to it. 😀
I haven't read any of those ones you mentioned, so I'll have to try checking them out. I've got a big list of books I plan on reading this year, so maybe I'll get lucky and squeeze some of them in there as well. 😛
