Sniffles & Sci Fi: A Mid-January Update

giphy

Greetings from the land of sniffles and hacked up lungs. ❤ I’ve been bogged down with a pretty wretched cold this weekend. Considering I was sick just two weeks ago, this makes me a fairly grumpy bundle of rage right now. Despite my current germ-stricken state, the weekend hasn’t been a total bust. Having to stay home the whole time let me get a lot of writing done, so yay for that, I suppose. 🙂

Although it wasn’t planned, I kicked the first month of the new year off with a theme of dystopian literature and television. I’m currently reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and I binge-watched the first season of The Shannara Chronicles and half of the second season of Future Man.

Mr. Moth and I also cuddled up on the couch and finally gave that Bird Box movie a go that everyone has been talking about. I didn’t choose the dystopian life, the dystopian life chose me. 😉

In other news: I’m a bit behind on some of the reviews I need to write for some comics and movies I’ve enjoyed recently, so reviews are on the horizon, folks! 🙂

Reviews to come:

  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018 film)
  • Aquaman (2018 film)
  • Locke & Key: Heaven and Earth (2017 Graphic Novel)
  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Vol. 1: The Crucible (2016 Graphic Novel)

I’ve tried a couple new recipes recently that I also look forward to sharing, particularly my first adventure in cooking cauliflower rice, as well as a lovely ginger sesame stir fry!

I’ve also got my birthday coming up at the end of the month! 😀 I really can’t wait to celebrate with my loved ones! ❤

How’s your January been going so far, guys?? Anybody else a slacker like me and still have their Christmas tree up? 😛

  1. Hmm. We also both just got over the plague here thanks to some horrible hag who coughed all over everyone on a plane…and
    birthday also impending here too!

Let me add to your probably also already overflowing to-do list by recommending the new series Nightflyers. I think you’d both like it a lot.

    1. Ugh, that’s awful. I don’t understand how people think it’s okay to just hack and cough all over people. I used to work in a nursing home and I swear this one lady would open her mouth as wide as possible when she did it just to be sure she could spread ALL the germs. 😛
I’m really glad you mentioned Nightflyers. It’s been on my radar and I keep debating if I should give it a go or not, so now I’ll have to check it out. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Well, I don’t have a Christmas tree still up but there are presents for a certain two people sitting in my dining room. 😉 That’s awesome that you had a good writing weekend! Mine was filled with ADD, I just could not concentrate on any one thing. I did some minor research but that was it. Looking forward to all of those reviews you listed!

    1. Woo! Prezzies! 😀
And thanks! I’m amazed I was able to concentrate on anything given how lousy I felt. I’m proud of you that you still at least got some research done when you were feeling so distracted. Even a little progress is still progress, so keep at it! 😀 ❤

    1. Yeah, I’m really enjoying the show so far. I’ll have to check out the books some time too from the sound of it. 🙂 Haha and no worries about only reading 1 book so far. 😛 The year has only just begun so hopefully you’ll have plenty of other awesome books to look forward to! 😀

  3. Oh, i really liked Bird Box! Both the movie and the book. That’s a rare thing 😀

I still haven’t read The Road, but got a copy a year ago, so really, i have no excuses. The Handmaid’s Tale was another one of those rare things i enjoyed both as a book, and series too. Maybe i even enjoyed the series more 😀

    1. Haha Glad it gave you a laugh. 😛
I agree, we enjoyed Birdbox but it didn’t blow us away like we expected by all of the hype that’s been circulating around it. It was good, though. I still really need to watch A Quiet Place! Never enough time in the day to read, watch, and do all the things!!

  4. I need to get the next Locke & Key. I love that series, but I’ve only read the first one. My local book store doesn’t have that series, and I keep forgetting to pick it up when I do an Amazon sweep. I’m sorry you’re under the weather, which has been SO heavy btw. Every time it changes I get sick because my lungs suck at being lungs. I also break out for some weird reason. Either way winter is kind of useless after the holidays :p
