June Wrap-Up: A Month in Photos

Can you guys believe it’s already almost July?? It feels like June came and went in the blink of an eye somehow. I decided to do something a little different with this month’s wrap-up post, and showcase what I’ve been up to through mostly photos. šŸ™‚

bailey

LAZY DAYS: As has been the case for much of the past few months, there’s been a lot of time at home. Here’s a pic of Bailey curled up for a little catnap in a pile of blankets. ā¤ Rest assured, if there is a comfy spot she WILL find it and she WILL nap on it.

GARDENING: Hostas, Rhododendron, Columbine, Peonies, Poppies, Oh My! It was a good month for gardening and learning. We planted more lilies, new bushes, moved some stuff around, and did a lot of other outdoor projects.

BAKING: I finally slowed down my baking spree I had been on. šŸ˜› I did, however, make a really yummy peanut butter ice cream pie (graham cracker crust, thin layer of hot fudge, Reese’s peanut butter ice cream with thin sheets of chocolate, whipped cream, Reese’s peanut butter sauce drizzle, and chopped up Reese’s cups as pictured above). I also baked another loaf of Garlic Cheddar Beer Bread (soooo good!) ā¤

DRAWING: I’ve been on a drawing binge lately that you can check out on my Instagram if you’re interested, but here’s a little sample of what I’ve been up to this month. šŸ™‚

work

WORK: I got to go to work a couple times (staff only) to start setting up for all of the social distancing/PPE changes we will have to put into effect upon our return. Also got to redecorate a little. Pictured above is the head start I got on one of my room’s bulletin boards. We’re supposed to return to work July 6th, but with COVID cases back on the rise, we’ll see what happens. We can’t open back up until our state enters Phase 5 of our reopening plan, and thankfully our Governor has been taking this very seriously since day 1 so I don’t think she’ll rush us into that until it is actually safe to do so.

LOSS OF A LOVED ONE: The pic above isn’t from this June, it’s actually from last year when we celebrated my parents’ pug BeeBee’s birthday party for her Sweet 16. ā¤ She was such a sweet and adorable little dog and was so loved by our entire family, but unfortunately we were forced to say goodbye to her this June. It is sad not having her around anymore, but she lived such a good life while she was with us. She was adopted by my family a decade ago, and by that point she had already lived through a lot. BeeBee was a puppy mill survivor who didn’t even get to feel the grass beneath her paws for the first 3 years of her life. She was rescued from that awful situation and found a home for some time with a woman who loved her, but eventually her owner became too sick to be able to take care of her any longer. My mom was in contact with a woman from a pug rescue league and she told my mom about BeeBee and that was that. She came to us blind, but this was nothing daunting for our family. We’ve taken in several animals with special needs over the years and her inability to see was no big deal. She was sassy and fun, and my dad especially spoiled her with so much love and affection. She had a new brother and constant companion in my parent’s other pug, Brutis. They were attached at the hip and formed an instant bond with one another. ā¤

She had the cutest little “bubble bark” that sounded more like “Borp Borp Borp” than the normal kind of bark you hear, loved being held, liked to adventure forward without a care in the world like she could see where she was going even if she was always bumping into things or barking in the wrong direction while trying to be “tough” like her brother. She preferred to be inside the house and wasn’t shy about making sure you knew it by finding her way back to the door and doing her little bubble bark to announce when she was “over this outdoors bullshit”. Haha

Her vet sent a very sweet card and a package of Forget-Me-Not seeds for my parents to plant and grow in BeeBee’s memory. ā¤ I thought that was such a touching and thoughtful thing for the vet’s office to do.

That’s it for my own personal June Wrap-Up. How was your June?? Can you believe the year is already halfway over? With how 2020 has been going I’m sure we’re all hoping for a better second half of the year. As always, take care and be safe, guys! ā¤

  1. So sorry to hear about Bee bee, Salem and I are sending you our best. šŸ™‚ Bailey looking cute as ever, and your baking looks delicious, though I’m allergic to garlic (even the smell makes me feel ill, must be the vampire in me!) but I love cheese and especially beer!! Always awesome to see more of your art, keep up the great work. šŸ™‚

    1. Aw, thank you so much! ^_^ That means a lot!
Oh, no! That’s such a rough deal having a garlic allergy. That must make it hard at restaurants. At least you get to enjoy beer and cheese! Haha Those are 2 very good things indeed! šŸ˜‰

  2. I LOVE that your vet sent you Forget-Me-Nots to plant in BeeBee’s memory! THAT IS SO FREAKING SWEET I CAN’T HANDLE IT. (I may even steal that idea to gift to friends/family that lose furry family members.)
You had a very productive and creative June otherwise my love! ā¤
It will be interesting to see where we're all at come the end of July. =/ These days, you just never know what the hell is going to go down.

    1. Seriously! My mom and I both teared up when we saw the Forget-Me-Not seeds. ā¤ That's a great idea to use for friends and loved ones who lose their little fur babies. It's such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. šŸ™‚
And you're so right. Who knows what's going to happen these days? I certainly don't. 0_o

  3. Sorry to hear about BeeBee. She lived a long happy life. I have a new found love for Pugs. Long story but I sort of rescued one from a burning house last year and it was the cutest and weirdest dog I’ve ever met haha. Love the art as always. I think the girl with the veil is my favourite, she looks pensive and melancholy. What is a Graham Cracker Crust? Haha.

    1. Aw, thanks so much! ^_^ I agree, pugs have a way of making you love them. They’re just so full of character. I love your pug rescue story! ā¤ The owner was so lucky you were around. Glad you and the little pug made it out okay!
And thanks for the feedback on my art, especially the woman with the veil. I had so much fun drawing her and was really proud of how she came out.
Graham cracker crust is just a simple pie crust made from graham crackers, butter, and sugar. šŸ™‚ They're more common for pies like banana cream or a cheesecake. They're really good, actually and very easy to make. šŸ˜€

  4. I had to read this post over a couple of sittings. So sorry to hear about BeeBee, but it’s so good that you all were able to give her such a happy life – one that so many animals just don’t get to enjoy.
On a less sad note, I love the kitteh and your artwork is (always) wonderful to see!

  5. My condolences for BeeBee. Looking such a friend is never ever easy. I do hope July will bring everyone in your family, including you, much more joyous and calm days. I love your artwork too by the way! Ever planned on making comic book strips? šŸ˜› And wow, the food!!! I’m hungry now hahahah

    1. Thank you very much. ā¤
And yes! I used to make little comics for fun and I did an entire rough draft for a horror comedy graphic novel years ago but then I shifted my focus to writing instead. I'll never say never to the thought of returning to the comic medium of storytelling though. šŸ˜‰

  6. Omg I teared up at reading about BeeBee. She looked so sweet ;_; I honestly can’t believe it’s (after) July 4th already, though I didn’t do much celebrating. It’s…a weird year to say the least. Our state went into green, buuuut since cases are going up, Philly is at least dialing things back. It’s utterly bonkers seeing the marked divide with how some states are handling things compared to others (re: Florida ugh).

I forget you have an Instagram, AND I forget I already follow you XD I loved a bunch of your art. Do you ever sell prints, because I would absolutely buy one of the BLM lady ā™„

    1. Aw, thank you so much. ā¤ She really was such a sweet little dog.
I agree, it's wild to think we're already past the fourth of July, and how, like you said, some states are handling things vastly different. It's madness how our country has managed to turn a pandemic into a bipartisan issue. I'm scared to see how bad things are going to get in the next 2 weeks after all the celebrating that went on this weekend across the country. -_-
And thanks for all the love on my art. ā¤ I appreciate it so much! I actually hadn't really thought about doing prints or anything so thank you for even thinking of that. šŸ™‚ Our local photo labs are closed last I checked and that was always how I used to do prints back in the day when I was doing commissions (it feels like ages ago!) lol or I'd just hook you up with a print of that one! If you're able to get it printed up in your area I fully support you doing so. It's all in support of a movement that is long overdue so I wouldn't even think of charging for that one. ā¤ ^_^

      1. What’s crazy is you wrote this a few days ago and it’s ALREADY GOTTEN WORSE. Like omg how things change in just a few days. The ONLY reasons states decided to start reopening is because of this abstract notion of “the economy.” We were just in Delaware at Rehoboth Beach and the beach was PACKED every day. When we left Sunday there were so many people not social distancing, not wearing masks and it’s fucking bananas. When we were leaving to check out there was a woman getting the bellhop to get her bags, and she opened the door with no mask and she was coughing. I was like omg wtf. American passports are currently useless, and one of my friends just pointed out that if things get really bad no country will offer us asylum without serious vetting because of this. It’s. A. Mess.

Ah! I’d probably use Shutterfly or something like that! They even make stickers šŸ˜€

      2. Ugh, that is so awful! Yeah, it’s hard to believe how it just keeps getting worse and worse here and so many people STILL refuse to act like anything is going on. šŸ˜¦
That sounds really cool about Shutterfly, I’ll have to look into that sometime. šŸ™‚ Stickers sound fun! šŸ˜€

      3. I’ve had the misfortune to see some of the responses shared on social media, and it’s even worse. Like people proud of how they’re not “sheep” ugh. Shutterfly is really cool. I think Photobucket does the same thing šŸ™‚
