So, recently I stumbled across some old and very rough concept sketches for some fantasy creatures/beings and decided to slowly start inking and coloring them for fun. It had been years since I’d done the initial sketches so it was fun looking back on them and spiffing them up a bit. 🙂 So if Merfolk, Gorgons, and flying rats are your thing, please enjoy the following images!
I decided to take inspiration from the Frilled Shark for the coloring and gills on these two Deep Sea Merfolk. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoy this color scheme for them. 🙂
This Mer-Person, however, I wanted to play with color a little bit more. I liked drawing the fins and whatnot on these guys, so maybe there will be more Merfolk to come in 2021. Who knows! 😀
It is both a tedious pain in the ass and very fun to draw Gorgon “hair” (aka: Danger Noodles) (aka: snakes). My attention span was not made for such things but I did thoroughly enjoy drawing these ladies. ❤
Again, this is all just concept art so please don’t mind how rough all these pieces are. 😉
I love rats. I also love bats. Needless to say, I would love to have a little rat-bat minion to ride on my shoulder and fly around town with me. Especially if that little rat-bat had purple fur like this little guy. Also, ignore the laws of aviation. I know his wings are too small but he is cute and that is clearly what really matters. ❤
Love these! That rat-bat thing looks exactly like one of our cats 😀

It’s more the look of sneakiness and of always being a little bit guilty 😀

I mean, who doesn’t love Merfolk, Gorgons and Flying Rats, right!? Lovely art as ever my friend, with my fave being the third one down (though all are fantabulous!) 🙂

It must’ve been so much fun to think about the proper colour scheme for these past creations! Fantastic work! 😀

All are really cool. The Rat-Bat is my favourite though. He’s cute and creepy. Two key essential things for any Rat-Bat.

Thank you so much! ❤ I'm glad you like them. "Cute and Creepy" is what I usually try to aim for when I draw stuff so I'm very pleased about your feedback on that! 😀

That’s some very cool artwork. I particularly like how expressive your faces are with a relatively few lines. 🙂

Omg the mer-people remind me of the Zoras from Legend of Zelda! I really, really need to do some research on Medusa because all of the modern stuff about her does my girl SO dirty, and I love that gorgon you have. I wanna write about her. Rat-bat baby is so cute ;_; There’s this article that keeps popping up in my timeline about some complete toilet abandoning 21 friendly rats in the snow, so I’ve had ratty babies on my mind. The one’s little face is so sad. He looks so confused and cold 😦 I’ve also seen a crow-rat combination, which is adorable.

Thank you so much! 😀
Awww, that’s so awful about the abandoned rat babies. I get so mad every time I hear about assholes abandoning animals like that. I don’t understand how they could possibly rationalize that level of cruelty. 😡
Omg a crow-rat sounds so cuuuute! Look up “trash gryphons” on Pinterest and be prepared for cuteness overload. They have a crow-raccoon that is my everything. lol

I’ve seen the trash gryphons and I love them! Yeah, ugh, that made me so angry and sad. The one’s sad little face. Now I want to look them up again and see how they’re doing ;_;
