Buh-Bye, 2020! Hello, 2021!

happy-new-year

Happy New Year! ❀ I know this year has been, to put it very lightly, a rough one, but I hope you’re all in as good of a place as possible right now, healthy, and feeling inspired going into 2021. πŸ™‚

I think if 2020 taught us just one thing, it’s how truly unpredictable life is. That’s part of the reason I’m looking at my New Year’s Resolutions a little differently this go around. It feels good to be leaving 2020 in the dust but I also know that the strike of midnight isn’t going to magically make everything better. I feel like 2021 is going to be a year more about the journey itself and a gradual evolution toward something better rather than an instant transformation. That’s kind of how I’m looking at my resolutions this year, too, since we really don’t know what the next 12 months will be like. I’m hopeful, though, that they will be just what we all need to move us toward better days. ❀ So, let’s get on with the resolutions, shall we?

RESOLUTION #1: FOCUS

I know I wasn’t alone in this, but 2020 had me spun for a loop and I think one of my biggest personal weaknesses was FOCUS. I’m really going to try to pull out all my best organizational tricks and attempt to be more focused moving forward. I have so many things I always want to work on constantly battling to pull me in different directions but I know that without focus I’m not going to be able to truly accomplish any of them. Pictured below are my new 2021 planner/calendar, a notebook for tracking goals I’m working on throughout the year in more detail, and STICKERS! Haha I recently watched a video from an author I admire and she talked about how she rewards herself with fun stickers when she meets small goals that she has set that lead to bigger goals. So, I figured, what the hell, I’ll give it a go, too. πŸ™‚ The little type writer stickers say “JUST WRITE” on them and then there’s a ton of cute fitness-themed stickers as well.

RESOLUTION #2: PUSH MYSELF OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE MORE

This week I’ve started dabbling with Prismacolor markers and I’m really enjoying them. πŸ™‚ I want to continue to play with different mediums which brings me to my next resolution: Pushing myself out of my comfort zone more. I want to start driving myself forward in new ways, I want to be more bold with trying new techniques for my art and writing, etc. I want to try to share more and put myself out there more in general. 2020 unfortunately was a huge reminder of how short life can be and how suddenly everything can change and I want to push myself to do the most I can while I’m here. To learn amazing new things and to grow as a person. I saw a quote recently that said “A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there” and I think that’s a good thing to keep in mind as I work toward my various goals this year.

RESOLUTION #3: SELF-CARE

Mental health is so important and mine has always pitted me in an uphill battle against myself. It really sucks sometimes. Depression and anxiety are the worst and they make you feel like you’re the worst. I’m going to try to make sure while I’m working on my goals this year that I also take the time to really work on me. I’ve been taking baby steps toward this while I’ve been in quarantine and it’s something I really want to continue to explore in 2021. πŸ™‚

So, yeah, those are my resolutions. I’m going to try to be flexible with whatever may be going on in the world at any given time because I honestly have no idea how the world around me will me in the months to come, but I will do my best to keep pushing forward during it as best I can. ❀

How are you kicking off your New Year so far? Have any resolutions for 2021? Here’s to what will hopefully be a MUCH better year! ❀

  1. That uni-guinea pig notebook though. πŸ˜›
I think these are all great resolutions and your mentally toward achieving them is reasonable. I keep reminding myself when thinking up new plans to cool my jets because everything still gets canceled last minute depending on the world. Which at first is depressing BUT then I remind myself that there are so many other things I could be getting done as well. So I guess the conclusion here is; we’ve got to be flexible. That’s another thing 2020 taught us, how to rebound when things get canceled. How to make the most with what we’ve got available to us.
ANYWHO – I think this is your year to get that first draft complete! ❀

    1. Aww, thanks, Lady! ❀ I sure hope so! It's going well so far this year so I'm hopeful! πŸ˜€
I agree, learning flexibility and how to bounce back after getting shat on after 2020 was definitely a learning experience! πŸ™‚

    1. “Anxiety beasts” is an excellent term for it. I may have to borrow that one! πŸ˜›
Thanks so much for the support and for being so open. ❀ Hopefully we'll both be kicking our anxiety beast's asses this year and show them what's what! Haha
I hope you're having a good start to the new year. πŸ™‚

    1. Haha right? I feel ya on that. I need to do the same. I especially can’t wait until I can go to the gym again though. Definitely something I doubt I’ll take for granted again. πŸ˜›

  2. Happy new year IM, and fingers crossed for a kinder year. No resolutions for me, (I made a resolution to not have resolutions about 10 years ago), but self-care and family will continue to be my focus 😊

  3. I’m so glad Cupcakes & Machetes left your link on her blog! Hi, hello πŸ™‚

I realized one of my New Year’s resolutions needs to be stay off the front page of Reddit. I have rampant anxiety, and I’m noticing lately that most things on Reddit’s front page are anti-maskers running around, being being crazy and political moves that are scary but probably can’t happen. My brain fixates on that “probably.” I need to stick to r/Aww, r/funny, and r/natureismetal.

    1. Hi, there! πŸ˜€ Aw, thanks. I’m glad you popped on over from Cupcakes & Machetes’ blog. ❀
Haha I know what you mean, I had to really back off from all the doom-scrolling I was doing too because the negativity was definitely feeding my anxiety too. Hopefully things will take a turn for the better this year. πŸ™‚

  4. Ooo these are really good ones! I’m with you on the self-care, and I want to take more time out to rest and de-stress because I’m such a stress head at the best of times. I’d like to focus more on writing too, which might be easier with less stress! It’s definitely been a strange year and you never know what life has in store around the corner. Let’s hope it’s eventually a Covid-free 2021. πŸŽ‰

Wishing you all the very, very best for a brighter New Year!

    1. Thank you so much! I hope you’re having a great start to the new year and I wish you luck with your goals as well. ❀ De-stressing is an absolute must, so I'm right there with you. πŸ™‚ It will be a great day indeed when we finally get back to Covid-free times. Hopefully that will be sooner than later. My state is having a lot of issues with vaccine distribution but hopefully if all goes right I'll be getting my first dose next week.

      1. Oh wow, fingers crossed you do get your vaccine next week! I assume the dosing there is as it should be, with the second dose in 21 days? In the UK they’ve changed it so people can’t get the second dose for 12 weeks, rendering it pretty much all pointless 😦 I really want those Covid-free days back!! xx

      2. Thank you! I really hope so too. ❀ Yeah, I believe so. I know that's what how long my best friend has to wait for hers after she got her first dose recently as well. Oh, wow! That's so messed up about them making you guys wait that long. I hope it all gets straightened out soon. What a mess.

  5. I’m still working on my resolutions (Tauruses are slow lol). They mostly have to do with writing (I mean of course they do). I dragged myself out of my own comfort zone by finding looking into therapy, and I had my first session today, so yay. I still feel awkward and have some awkward after conversation thoughts because that’s just how my brain works, but it’s definitely something i needed to do πŸ™‚

    1. Writing resolutions are always good ones! πŸ˜€
Congrats on having your first therapy session! That’s amazing. I’m so happy for you. ❀
I can definitely see how it is probably awkward at first. I'm sure I'll feel the same, honestly. I'm thinking about writing a lot of the stuff I want to talk about down beforehand just so I don't shut down or anything. I suck sometimes at talking about my feelings so I think that might help me make sure I put it all out there when I do begin seeing someone.
Good luck with your future sessions. πŸ™‚ Hopefully you'll get more comfortable with it the more you go. ❀

      1. Ughhh lol. I’m happy I did it, but now I have to fill out this questionnaire about what I want to get out of therapy and what “waking up to a perfect day” looks like and I’m like uhhhhhhhhh lol. Writing it down should be easier for me, but I think because I know I’ll have to talk about it that I’m feeling a bit stuck. I do really like the therapist though. She was confirming and validating a lot of stuff I’ve found in online communities, and it was really refreshing to hear it β™₯ It was Better Help, all web sessions, which is fantastic since we’re still in a pandemic.

      2. I’m so glad you are having such a good experience and thanks for giving me the name for the site. Online web sessions sounds so much better all the way around with everything going on. πŸ™‚ I’ll have to check that out, so thank you for the info! It’s been weeks since I’d been on WP so I hope you were able to have a good experience with talking to your therapist about that. ❀ I'm the same way, it's so much easier writing my thoughts out than sharing them verbally.
