Fan Art Friday #1

Happy Friday! Oof, what a week. I won’t get into the details but it’s been a rough one to say the least. I know my last post was also a big blogging announcement but guess what, I’ve got another one I’m excited to be sharing. πŸ™‚ I finally bit the bullet and updated my art arsenal with the iPad Pro and accessories and I’m in love. ❀ We’re talking head over heels, hearts for eyes levels of in LOVE. I’ve been watching tutorials and getting tips from a friend at work and it’s been so much fun learning all sorts of cool new techniques and tricks to improve my drawings. I’m looking forward to this exciting new step in my drawing journey. So much to learn and I’m loving it. Which brings me to today’s announcement regarding Fan Art Fridays, a new semi-weekly type of post I’m hoping to include moving forward in my blog. It won’t necessarily be each and every Friday, but I hope to make it a pretty regular type of post from this point onward. πŸ™‚Β

To kick things off, I decided to go with two horror comedy icons, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and Audrey II from The Little Shop of Horrors. These are both my first illustrations using my new iPad Pro so there’s plenty for me to learn and work on but I had a lot of fun with them just the same! πŸ™‚

I’m hoping my new tools of the trade will help me stay motivated with my drawing and that I’ll have a lot more art posts to share with you guys in the months to come. I think these Fan Art Fridays will be a fun way to get my creativity going when I don’t know what I want to draw, too.

What are your favorite horror comedies? I think the two genres work really well together and have always been a fan when the two collide. Fun Fact: I made a full rough draft to a horror comedy graphic novel back in the day and I still have it. Maybe at some point I’ll breathe some new life into those old pages for fun and post some of the images here. πŸ˜‰

Have a great weekend!! ❀

  1. OMG YOU HAVE TO WORK ON A GRAPHIC NOVEL NOW!
You’ve put that in my head and since I know how great you are at it, I think you should add it to your repertoire of creative works. πŸ˜€
I’m super pumped for Fan Art Fridays.
You also know how I feel about horror comedy and it’s very hard to pick a favorite. I think my all time favorite (and I’m not sure other people find it funny but that’s their fault not mine) is Dead Alive. It also wins favorite horror movie of all time for me.

  2. Elvira’s stockings are so cool. I can practically feel the texture! My favorite horror comedy right now is Hot Fuzz, but my introduction to the genre, a film that is hard to find, is Dead Alive. Thanks, Peter Jackson!

Now that you have your new drawing tools, do you ever skim through any subreddits where folks share images, tips, advice, etc?

    1. Thank you!! ❀ I'm so glad you mentioned the stockings because that was something new I tried so I'm glad it was a success! ^_^
Hot Fuzz is great. I absolutely adore Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
And yesss! Dead Alive is fantastic! πŸ˜€ I'm always so excited when other people have seen that one. lol
I actually have never really checked out reddit before, but that's a really good idea! πŸ˜€

      1. Some subreddits are a black hole of horror. Don’t visit those. But then you find communities of people who just want to share photos of their indoor plants and it’s like, “Yes, this my jam.” You’ll definitely find resource sharing on reddit.

  3. I’ve always loved Elvira! She’s been goth goals for a minute πŸ˜€ The Addams Family is probably my top horror comedy, and apparently there’s a Wednesday show coming to Netflix. I’m a fan of horror musicals, too, and my favorite is Sweeney Todd, but Little Shop of Horrors has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid.

    1. Yesss! ❀ Elvira is one of those life-long loves. She's drop dead gorgeous (pun intended) and hilarious to boot!
I heard a little something about that Wednesday show. I hope it ends up being really good. ^_^
Sweeney Todd is excellent too! I'm due for a re-watch on that one for sure.
