November 2021 Wrap-Up

Hello, December! ❤ It’s kind of bizarre to think that 2021 has already nearly come to an end. It feels like we were JUST wishing for 2020 to be over. What even IS time anymore since the pandemic hit? 0.o

I hope you guys all had a great November. 🙂 What was your favorite part of the month? Here’s some of the things I enjoyed most throughout November:

NaNoWriMo: NaNoWriMo was definitely interesting this year. This was the first year I’ve gone into it in 2nd Draft/Revisions mode, so it was a little more difficult for me to get my footing at first. I definitely added to my word count and fleshed out a lot of the bare bones areas of the book, but I also spent a lot of time moving things around and merging my new material in with the old. Near the end of the month I found myself less focused on the word count, and more focused on just doing whatever needed to be done. All in all, I may have veered off course as far as my original NaNoWriMo goal, but I still think it was a very successful month of writing/editing, and I’m proud of what I accomplished in that amount of time. 🙂

Buddy Read: Cupcakes & Machetes and I did a buddy read for Science Fiction month of The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. If you want to see what we thought of it feel free to check out our post we did about it.

Thanksgiving: We kept things very small, just immediate family, and everyone involved was vaccinated. I like laid back holidays so I thought it was really nice. ❤ My dad and I love Bruce Campbell, so we watched his new movie Black Friday.

Watching: My favorite shows I watched this month are definitely Arcane (on Netflix) and Dragula, Season 4 (on Shudder).

Reading: I only finished reading ONE thing this entire month, and it was my buddy read with C&M. Buuuut, I did also just start reading Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, which has been very interesting right from the beginning. 🙂

Video Games: I’ve been playing a lot of Mario Kart 8 this week. 🙂

Baking: Meh. I was pretty excited to try this no bake pumpkin pie recipe, but it was bland as hell, to be honest. I’ve only ever tried making 2 pumpkin pies in my life, both for Thanksgiving with my family, and both were terrible. The first one was when I was a kid, my dad and I made a gorgeous pumpkin pie but forgot one of the ingredients… SUGAR. D: So I guess failing at pumpkin pie is a family tradition at this point. lol

What are you most excited for in December? Any last minute projects or goals you have going on before the new year? 🙂

  1. Wooooo! Get it girl!
My favorite part of November was any day that I didn’t work. Lol. So honest about that.
I look forward to school ending and getting about 3-4 week break until it starts up again. Oh! And New Year’s Eve when we can get back to our new tradition! 😀
Pies are hard man. I haven’t tried making one since I wasn’t impressed with that banana cream pie I made YEARS ago.

  2. My family tends to like really bland, ready-made food, so any time I introduce something new at Thanksgiving, they all look at me like I’m a face hugger, lol. It’s been like this for so long that now I get nervous when I start making things, and then I end up screwing up. I made an apple gingersnap crisp and only added half the butter, so the flour part was very…..flour-y. Ugh.

For December, I am excited about getting my booster on Saturday, doing an Alfred Hitchcock mystery puzzle, writing my Christmas cards, and meeting C&M and her spouse for the first time!!! This is a secret meeting, though, as a visit to the local brewery is tied into the trip, which is a gift for my spouse for Christmas.

    1. Oof. I just had that same problem of a baked good being wayyy too flour-y recently too. I feel your pain! lol
Though a face hugger at Thanksgiving would definitely spice things up. 😛 Now I’m just envisioning a turkey-face hugger hybrid and am making a mental note to draw one next Thanksgiving! lol
I’m so excited for you guys to finally get to meet. 😀 And I think your husband will love the surprise brewery trip. I’m pretty sure C&M told me where you guys are going, and if so that’s a really good brewery with excellent food. Their smoked gouda nachos are absolutely amazing. ❤ I'm sure you guys are all going to have a blast! 🙂

      1. Nick loves breweries, and Michigan has got it going on. I was surprised when I heard that Bell’s in Kalamazoo was sold, but the person who owns it has been in business since 1985, so maybe he’s all done with working life. I asked C&M if you and your spouse could come too, but she said that you guys work super early, and we’re coming on a weekday.

  3. I ended up driving up to Maryland to spend the holiday with my grandmother and stayed for 4 days. I brought along my Genesis mini and played some games, cooked, fixed her usual tech problems (lol), and drove 10 hours back home!

I’m not sure what December will be bringing. We’re three days in and so far so good. Bought a Sega Saturn, decorating for Christmas tomorrow, and just spending time with my partner and our fur babies when I can.

Hope you have a good month!

  4. I haven’t drafted another word since NaNo, but I made my goal and I’m happy about that. I have been doing a lot more foundational/world building work, and I think I want to go back and tweak some things before I move on BUT I’m also feeling like I want to continue where I left off, too since it was an interesting place. But then again I also need to organize. What even is life lol.

I watched the first episode of Arcane and it was really good. Definitely continuing that series!

    1. Haha I feel that on so many levels. I’ve bounced between straight on writing, going through and jotting down questions or things I want to tweak, and now I’m going through and answering/researching all of those things. It feels like a chaotic frenzy half the time. lol
Yay! I’m so excited you like what you’ve seen of Arcane so far. ❤

      1. Omg I feel JUST like that. I have a To Do checklist that I go through in an attempt to organize my thoughts. Right now I’m trying to figure out conversation beats because I’m using that between my MC and her BFF to give world/story background, but when I drafted it, I was kind of all over the place.

Omg…so I saw the third episode, but you know how you don’t have the emotional energy to watch things? I’ve been like that lately. Arcane is one of those shows I actually have to pay attention to, so I need to have enough concentration and energy to watch it. The last episode I watched is when shit went down ending in Powder and Vi having their split. I knew that was going to happen at some point, because I’ve seen artwork. It didn’t really feel like a big spoiler since I didn’t know how it happened.

      2. Duuuuuuude. Episode 3 was crazy. That was when I just knew I was going to love the show, head over heels. lol I know what you mean, I knew they would split off too, but the way they handled it was so well done. I can totally see needing the emotional energy for it, too, so I get it. I’ve been feeling that HARD this past week myself. Hopefully it gets better for us both soon! ❤

      3. I watched ep 4! I feel like it’s one of those shows that’s so rich you have to take it slowly. I started watching the 2019 A Christmas Carol, the really, really dark one lol. It’s like three hours long though, so I just watched the first chapter (they at least broke it up like that). I’ve just been watching light, funny stuff that doesn’t require much thought lol. I can just put it on and not have to pay a lot of attention.

      4. Ooh, that’s a good point. I wonder if that is why they released it just 3 episodes at a time?
My husband and I both liked that dark version of A Christmas Carol, and somehow I had forgotten about it.
Yeah, sometimes you just gotta have those light, fluffy shows. 🙂
