My Writing Minion

That moment when you’re doing your best to concentrate on character sheets for your writing project and your fuzzy cohort says “Screw that shit, it’s cuddle time!”

Bailey
Bailey cares not for productivity. She demands pets and undivided attention from all mortals.

It’s isn’t easy resisting those giant imploring kitty eyes when you’re trying to work on stuff. Still, I wouldn’t trade my writing minion for the world. ❤ Generally she’s pretty good about just relaxing by my side while I write, but today she wasn’t having it, rolling over onto the books I was referencing, meowing at me incessantly.

What are your biggest and/or cutest distractions when you’re trying to get your creativity on? Do you have the willpower to resist or do you succumb to the cuteness? I’m a sucker for all things adorable so I’m pretty sure you already know what my answer is. 😉

Monster-Sized Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Review of Issues 6-8)

sabcover

Released just before season 2 of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, this collection presents us with issues 6-8 of the horror comic that inspired the popular online series. As I mentioned when I reviewed volume 1 of the comic, this is a MUCH darker version of Sabrina than the old Archie comics or the 90’s TV show. With cannibalism, Satanic worship, orgies, the souls of unbaptized children and things even more disturbing brewing, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Me, though? I really enjoyed it. ❤

I’d say the main thing I have to nitpick is the use of “Monster-Sized” in the title when it is a mere 3 issues long, but hey, it is what it is. 😉 Two of the issues are origin tales, one of which belonging to a few of the witches’ familiars including Salem, Sabrina’s sassy black cat.

The other origin tale concerns a character I’m going to leave unmentioned in consideration for the people who have yet to read volume 1, but I enjoyed it as well. It’s pretty interesting seeing how the characters differ so much between this comic series and the Netflix series. As I said in my old review, I still prefer the characters in the show due to their personalities and how fleshed out they are, all with the exception of Salem who gets so much more time to shine in the comic.

ChillingAdventuresOfSabrina_08-1

After the two origin tales we finally arrive back where the main plot of the comic series left off, which was quite the cliffhanger, so I was definitely ready to get back to that. Unfortunately, the series is having some issues (no pun intended) and is kind of in limbo from what I hear, so although it may not be the full trade we wanted for a second installment, it was nice getting to read on. Sabrina gets some tough love from her aunties, learns that everything comes with a price, and more. Hopefully we’ll get some new issues soon so we can find out where this story is headed.

Have you been reading the comics or watching the show? What are your thoughts? 🙂

It’s Raining Spiders and We’re Eating Butterflies

wamh1

Weird, messed-up dreams are nothing new to me. In fact, they’re kind of my specialty. Still, I’m going to assume sheer exhaustion resulted in this particularly bizarre dream, and not some subconscious desire to eat bugs because, well, no thank you.

bug1bug2

I rarely nap, but today I did and man, did my brain go bonkers. First of all, it started off like those dreams you see in horror movies where the character wakes up thinking it was all just a dream and then the killer pops up and gets them. Except in my case, I “woke up” in bed from what Dream Me thought was a nap (so a dream within a dream if you will) to see what looked like long white hairs gently falling down from the ceiling above me. Turned out those long white silky hairs were connected to baby spiders falling down from the ceiling by the hundreds. Needless to say, I lost my shit.

Untangling myself from the blankets, I sprung out of bed and ran out the door into some creepy dungeon that was covered in spider webs, egg sacs, etc. I mean, it was everywhere, to the point that I had to crawl and rip my way through it with spiders crawling all over the place. It was disgusting. 2fbf0f41eb93b1808c079b2d9da016a96752211ceed04cd00b1a3f3fb55e864e

While trying to make my way through the dungeon I saw my cat was there, too, and that she was batting at something in one of the matted spider webs: a gorgeous golden yellow butterfly. I can’t remember what Dream Me thought my mom would want with this particular butterfly, I just know that Dream Me knew she just had to have it. So I made my way through the spider-nastiness of the dungeon only to discover that in that time my cat had turned into my parents’ blind pug (not that Dream Me thought this was weird in any way, shape or form mind you.) Also, said pug was standing on a washing machine and promptly started eating the butterfly I felt my mom so desperately needed.

After wrestling the butterfly free from the mouth of a hungry pug, I had my prize: one mangled butterfly covered in pug drool. Suddenly, looking down at the butterfly, Dream Me realizes the pug had the right idea, and I promptly begin eating what’s left of it, pug spit and all.

Then, like we’re in an episode of Pokemon, this butterfly begins to change into a bigger, badass butterfly / Japanese Hornet hybrid (if you don’t know already what a Japanese Hornet is, feel free to google it, just don’t hit the ‘Y’ key instead of the ‘T’ key while typing ‘hornet’ and wind up with a google image spread of porn. Typo fail true story.)

So, yeah, while Dream Me was choking and trying to pull some insect monstrosity out of my mouth, bit by bit (because of course it’s falling apart and simultaneously trying to crawl down my throat all at once) I finally wake up from this dream. Worst. Nap. EVER.

Anywhoooo, April’s been kind of a crazy month so far. This is only my second post of the month, and It’s been hard for me to find time to hop onto WP, but I’m hoping life will regain some normalcy in May. Apologies in advance if I’m sort of flaky this month with posting and commenting. Life is hectic at the moment with the new job/new house situation. Tell me how you’re doing, though! 😀 I miss getting to chat with all you awesome people more, so I’d love to hear how you’re doing and if you’ve got anything exciting going on. Feel free to leave a link below to any cool posts of yours you feel I may have missed recently. ❤

The Christmas Tag!

I’m feeling festive this year, so when I saw this cute little Christmas tag posted by The Happiest Pixel I decided to join in on the holiday fun! 🙂 Fun Fact: I used to be a total Grinch til Cupcakes and Machetes made it her personal mission to show me the joys of the holiday season. I was skeptical at first but have slowly come to enjoy Christmas and the chaos that comes with it. 😛

original

1.) What is your favorite Christmas film?

I actually have a few. 🙂 It’s no secret that I love The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s definitely a holiday staple. I’ve also always enjoyed Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas Celebration and the more recent Krampus film from 2015.

2.) Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

It’s always been fake, except for one year. That was the year my cat turned into the Hulk and took down an entire pine tree, bringing it and all it’s decorations crashing to the floor. Cats seriously up their dickhead game this time of year.

3.) What is your favorite Christmas song?

Carol of the Bells has been my favorite for a good while now. 🙂

4.) What is your favorite Christmas scent?

Hmmm . . . I really like cinnamon scented things, especially around Christmas. It reminds me of when my mom helped my brother and I make cinnamon ornaments for the tree when we were kids. For several years I was pretty obsessed with Bath & Bodyworks’ Vanilla Bean Noel scent, but I kind of burnt myself out on it.

5.) Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

It’s usually pretty laid back. I pretty much just enjoy the company of who I’m with and we open one present that night. I’ve always done that since I was a kid. I think a lot of people do it, too.

6.) Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

See the above question. 😉

7.) What tops your Christmas tree?

Well, this year the only tree I’ve decorated so far is the one my room at work decorated, and we have a big beautiful silver bow on top. We’ll see what the other two trees I have yet to help decorate will be topped with this go around.

8.) What is the best thing about Christmas for you?

Spending time with my loved ones and doing all the festive activities with them leading up to the actual holiday. Also, the book club I’m in always has a fun Christmas party to look forward to.

9.) What is your favorite festive food or treat?

As of this year, I’d have to say that damn tasty Christmas Kronut I was just raving about in my last blog post. Other faves include the chocolate candy cane doughnut from Tim Hortons, the Bigby Peppermint Mocha Latte . . . basically anything chocolate and peppermint, apparently.

10.) What is on top of your Christmas wish list this year?

Trump’s removal from office. A girl can dream, can’t she? 😛

Review- How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You

If you’re familiar with the webcomic The Oatmeal, chances are you know what you’re getting into with this one. 😉 Written and illustrated by Matthew Inman (aka- The Oatmeal), this book is full of craziness in comic-form, crass humor, and cats. Oh yes, so very many cats.

om1

I find it rather appropriate that I write this review as my cat slumbers at my side, no doubt dreaming of murder and mayhem. Those of you with fuzzy hell beasts, er, I mean cats of your own, are sure to recognize plenty of your own cat’s habits throughout the pages of this book. But, as The Oatmeal will point out, Some of the most mundane-seeming things our feline friends do in their daily lives might just be major red flags indicating their nefarious intentions.

You might think it’s cute when your cat kneads you with their paws, but what if this is really just their way of checking your internal organs for signs of weaknesses? And what of that excessive shoveling they do when burying their poo in the kitty litter box? Yup, practice for when they have to bury your body later. Also, despite what most people would tell you, it isn’t a gift when your cat leaves you a dead bird or mouse. It’s a warning.

4

This art-filled book spans various cat-related subjects including, but not limited to:

6 ways to tell if your cat thinks it’s a mountain lion.

How you see your cat and how your cat sees you. (Hint: They see us as “giant hairless gorilla-pig slaves” only put on this earth to fulfill their every want and need.)

How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you.

Having a baby vs. having a cat. (Quote from this section in regards to human infants: “Comes shrieking out of a vagina like some kind of jam-covered goblin.”) lol If you haven’t already guessed from that quote, this section is heavily in the favor of cats over babies.

If we treated our cats like they treat us.

The Bobcats. (If you’ve ever wondered what life at the office would be like if you had a couple of cats for co-workers, wonder no further. The Bobs are here to steal your sandwiches from the break room fridge, terrorize interns, and lick their own genitals all on the company’s dime.)/

I think this book could be the perfect gift for any cat lover you might have in your life. (Assuming they don’t mind some naughty language and potty humor, of course.) It’s makes for a fun little coffee table book, too. How could a title like that NOT spark up conversation? 😛 It was a fun and quick read (finished it in one sitting).

Cheeseburger Cat

As suggested by Forged From Reverie I have decided to share some pictures of my own furry companion after marveling at another adorable post about his trusty battle pug, Oghren. This was his ninth installment of “A Man and his Pug” and this one featured Oghren in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume. As if that wasn’t enough to make you want to go check it out, the post also discusses the pure joy it is to have a pug, a topic I can definitely get behind!

So, on that note, allow me to formally introduce you fine folks to my loving and faithful companion, Bailey. She’s a sweetheart, but is also capable of being a total crap sandwich when she wants to be. Seriously, I’ve got plenty of stories I could tell you. She’s great in the sense that she always uses her litter box and never scratches up the furniture, and very rarely has hairballs, but she’s got some major sass and attitude sometimes. Even then, it’s impossible to stay mad at her because the circumstances are usually more ridiculous than infuriating, anyway. I wouldn’t give her up for anything.

She makes a great sidekick. She even has an amazing burger costume she dons on occasion! Probably to fight crime or something. 😉
