Shark Week Art Update #2

Well, another Shark Week has come and gone, but it was jawsome while it lasted! πŸ˜€ My last 2 pieces I did for Shark Week include an adorable drawing of King Shark from the hilarious cartoon Harley Quinn. ❀ It seemed fitting since the new season just started AND it has my absolute favorite version of King Shark, voiced by none other than the always-awesome Ron Funches.

Untitled_Artwork(24)

For the final piece, I wanted to mix things up and make a mer-shark. Mermaids are cool and all, but I would 100% want to be a mer-shark. ❀

Untitled_Artwork(25)

I really enjoyed myself this year with Shark Week. We did so much at work to celebrate sharks, and I had fun nerding out with friends about sharks and watching as much shark content as I could squeeze in! πŸ™‚

How was your July?? What are you looking forward to most in August? πŸ™‚

Belated January 2022 Art Update

Man, February was an intense and upsetting month, so here’s to what will hopefully be better days as we move into March. I’ll do a proper February Wrap-Up Post soon, but first I wanted to catch up on a post I’d planned to do much earlier in the month. It may be a little late, but I wanted to share my art update for January, so let’s do this! πŸ˜€

Untitled_Artwork(21)

Having the absolute best best friend a girl could ask for for over 2 decades has embedded a strong appreciation for friendship in me, so I just wanted to draw a fun little picture of two BFF’s taking a selfie together. ❀ They actually remind me a lot of 2 of the characters in the story I’m writing, so it’s another instance where one creative hobby starts to bleed into the other. πŸ™‚

Untitled_Artwork(22)

Werewolves are always fun to draw. I had an especially amusing time making that big toothy wolf grin. πŸ˜€

Untitled_Artwork(23)

I wanted to do a quick experimentation in working out comic panels but since I didn’t have a plan of what to fill those panels with and was mostly looking at it as a bit of rough practice, I decided to go with something I was already familiar with. Hence, this Sailor Moon transformation I did in my own style. It’s meant to be messy and rough around the edges since I was mostly focused on panel layout and trying out a couple new techniques and tricks I was learning.

I managed to squeeze in some more art work in February over on myΒ Instagram account, so I’ll try to make sure I share them over here in the near future too. πŸ™‚ I’m slowly starting to pick up new handy little tricks here and there on Procreate, so hopefully I’ll be able to learn and draw some more in March too. I’ve been hard at work on the second draft of my book I’m writing (whenever I’m not too burnt out from work/life in general) so we’ll see what I can manage. πŸ™‚

Did you find any time for any particular hobbies this month? ALSO, if you happen to have any handy tips for making more time for the hobbies you enjoy, please feel free to share!Β

Week 1 of Corpsetober Art Challenge

Can you believe the first week of October is already over? I managed to do most of the prompts for the first week of Corpsetober, an art challenge that this year presents you with very innocent-seeming prompts, but then dares you to make them horrific, spooky, or Halloweenie in whatever way you see fit. It’s been a lot of fun so far, especially since I’m not stressing myself out to complete each prompt for each day.

Prompt 1: Sunday Funnies (Comic Strips)

I had to go with an absolute childhood favorite of mine for this prompt, and choose Calvin & Hobbes.

Untitled_Artwork(15)

Prompt 2: Childhood Toys

I actually never owned a Furby as a kid, but I remember them being very popular, and the recent Netflix animated film The Mitchell’s vs. The Machines has an amazing scene with Furbies that this pic I drew was directly inspired by.

Untitled_Artwork (17)

Prompt 3: Retro Video Games (The 80’s)

It was so hard to pick which game to go with, but in the end I picked Pac-Man. Not only because it’s awesome, but also because I knew it would be pretty quick to draw. πŸ˜›

Untitled_Artwork(14)

Prompt 4: Superheroes

I thought Zatanna would be a good choice for something fun and spooky, with her pulling some tentacled creature from her hat. I’ve always wanted to draw her, so this was a good excuse to do that.

Untitled_Artwork(12)

Prompt 7: Mermaids

I love drawing mermaids. ❀ Especially creepy mermaids. This Deep Sea Mermaid was fun since I gave her a color scheme for when she was closer to the surface, and one for when she was down in the darker, deep waters. She was inspired by a few different sea creatures, some of which include: the angler fish, frilled shark, and leopard seal to name a few.

Untitled_Artwork(10)Untitled_Artwork(11)

Bonus Drawings Just for Fun:

Even though I didn’t end up doing 2 of the prompts (Memes and Doggos), I did end up working on these 2 drawings instead.

I hope you guys enjoyed my weird little drawings this week. Haha I know I certainly had a lot of fun making them. πŸ™‚ What have you been working on this October? Any goals or projects you’re working on this month?

Fan Art Friday #2

Hard to believe it’s been a week already, but here we are! πŸ™‚ I decided to whip up a speed-drawing of Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Andy Muschietti’s It. for my second installment of Fan Art Friday. I loved how absolutely creepy Pennywise’s face was in this scene so that’s the one I went with. The floaty Bill SkarsgΓ₯rd eyes, all the teefs. How could I possibly resist? πŸ˜›

Untitled_Artwork(1)

It was fun to play with some new techniques and brushes for this one. I don’t think I’ve ever colored that many teeth in a single drawing. Haha

Definitely looking forward to what will (hopefully) be a relaxing weekend. Who knows if that will happen though. πŸ˜›

What are you weekend plans looking like? Watching any good horror movies or read any scary novels/graphic novels?

April 2021 Art Update

What time is it? Art Update Time! πŸ™‚ I have an amazingly kind friend at work who let me borrow her fancy IPad recently to practice some digital illustrating on something different than my current art tablet set up I have, and damn, did I ever enjoy myself! ❀

I’ve been watching/reading a lot of Attack on Titan lately, so I could hardly resist drawing some AoT Fan Art while I was at it. And where better to start, than with Captain Levi?

While I was drawing badasses from AoT, it only made sense to draw some Mikasa. It was also a nice practice at shadows/lighting. Definitely a far cry from perfect, but it felt good to be practicing. ❀

Playing around with shadows made me want to play around with some different shapes and colors which resulted in the dragon pictured below.

Practicing with digital art again feels so rewarding. I love learning new techniques and pushing myself out of my comfort zone more. What things have you been learning and/or working on lately? Who else watched the first half of the final season of AoT? I absolutely looooved it. I can’t wait to see how it all ends come winter when the final episodes are released. πŸ˜€

Inktober 2019: Week 2 Roundup

Bailey rocking her new Halloween bandana.

Hello, it’s your resident sick girl here, living her best couch potato life with her trusted fuzzy minion cohort by her side, and we’ve got lots of new Inktober pieces for ya. A whole week’s worth, in fact!

Day 8: The daily prompt was β€œFRAIL” and I took my inspiration from old desiccated mummy faces. I then kind of took it into a more living dead sort of direction and ended up with this:

inktober8

Day 9: The daily prompt was β€œSWING” and chose to do a little sketchbook quickie of my girl, Batwoman (Bombshells batter style, of course!) πŸ˜‰

inktober9

Day 10: The daily prompt was β€œPATTERN” and I was completely and utterly stumped on this one. I decided to just draw some quick little jack o’lanterns in a pattern of sizes (tall-short-tall-short). Hey, they can’t all be winners, right? πŸ˜›

inktober10

Day 11: The daily prompt was β€œSNOW” and at this point I really wanted to up my Inktober game. I took inspiration from the legends of the wendigo since they’re associated with winter/snow.

inktober11

Day 12: The daily prompt was β€œDRAGON” and I was feeling sick as a dog at this point, so I *technically* posted this the morning of Day 13, but oh, well. I did start it on the 12th, but NyQuil landed me in bed earlier than I would have intended.

inktober12

Day 13: The daily prompt was β€œASH” and I embraced my sickly current state and drew a sickly woman covered in ash.

Day 14: The daily prompt was β€œOVERGROWN” and I went with a wild forest nymph with overgrown, wild red hair and branches growing out of her head because why the hell not?? πŸ˜‰

inktober14

Well, that’s this week’s Inktober installment from yours truly. I hope you guys have been enjoying your October so far. There’s plenty of Halloween fun still to be had this month. What fun autumn hijinks have you been up to? What creative stuff are you working on? πŸ™‚

Sketchbook Update: Joker Toxin Edition

joker toxin

Sketchbook Update! This fan art quickie was from a couple weeks ago, so some of you may have already seen it over on my Instagram account, but I figured I should go ahead and post it here anyway. πŸ™‚

There’s something so fun about drawing twisted creepy grins like these. This unfortunate duo are just my interpretation of some poor unfortunate souls who crossed paths with everyone’s favorite Clown Prince of Crime.

Done with watercolor markers and sharpies.

What creative shenanigans have you guys been up to? πŸ˜€ August is shaping up to be incredibly busy but I’m hoping to continue my effort to make more time for drawing. Life’s too short not to make time for what makes you happy. ❀

Shark Week Drawings: 2019

❀ Ahoy! Happy Shark Week! ❀

Screenshot_2019-08-03 Ignited Moth ( ignitedmoth) β€’ Instagram photos and videos
Fan art for the game Hungry Shark World by yours truly.

This has truly been a Jawsome Shark Week so far, but it has also been a VERY busy one! I was beginning to fear that I would run out of time to do some Shark Week art this year, but I managed to squeeze in the time for at least 2! (Which is one more than last year! Haha) πŸ˜›

I recently learned about the game Hungry Shark World (and totally want to play it) which resulted in the fan art you see above. All the sharks in the game have attitude and some are really outlandish and cool looking. It even has zombie sharks and prehistoric sharks you can play as, along with a few other non-shark species. I guess the premise of just eat all the things is pretty simple, but it looks fun to me, so, why not? πŸ˜€

The other drawing I did is definitely more in the “doodle” category, but I did it more for fun anyway. πŸ˜› Every single time I see a photo of a basking shark gliding through the water with its mouth gaping open as it feeds, all I can imagine is it saying “Hey, you guys!” in the voice of Sloth from The Goonies. Don’t ask why my brain works the way it does, because even I couldn’t tell you sometimes. Haha

Screenshot_2019-08-03 Ignited Moth ( ignitedmoth) β€’ Instagram photos and videos

If you don’t know about basking sharks, here’s a quick little Basking Shark 101 for ya:

Basking Sharks are the second largest shark in the entire world, dwarfed only by the whale shark.

Luckily, like the whale shark, basking sharks are one of three gentle giants of the sea, using filter-feeding as their method of consumption. That means, despite the intimidating size and wide, gaping mouths, they’re really just cruising around for plankton and other itty bitty prey.

They are surprisingly capable of breaching the surface and launching themselves out of the water, which, when you consider their size, is pretty cool and terrifying all at once if you just so happen to be in a boat beside one. πŸ˜› The reason they do this isn’t really known since they aren’t doing it for hunting purposes like great whites do. Some theories are that it could be a move to impress the ladies during mating season, or that it is in an effort to rid themselves of parasites and lamprey eels that hitch along on them for a ride. No one knows for certain, though. Apparently one is reported to have unintentionally capsize a boat off the coast of Scotland while breaching, resulting in the drowning of 3 people. 😦

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed the Shark Week drawings this year! πŸ™‚ I wish I’d had the time to do more, but even though it’s still technically shark week, I am going to be too busy having fun and hanging out with Mr. and Mrs. Cupcakes and Machetes this weekend as we enjoy shark week, our body weight in rum, and celebrating Mr. C&M’s birthday! Have a great weekend, everyone!! ❀ ❀ ❀

TBT: Old B&W Comic Fan Art

Haven’t done a Throwback Thursday art post in a while, so let’s go way the hell back and check out some of my old comic-related fan art, shall we? πŸ™‚

Up first is a piece I made specifically for a contest Roman Dirge was doing for his Lenore comics. I did not win, but it was certainly a fun drawing to do.

tbt8

Next, sticking with fan art for comics from SLG publishing, here’s a couple different characters from the comic series Gloomcookie.

tbt6

tbt3

tbt5

Aaaaand last but not least, is Harley Quinn. I’ve been a fan of Harley for a long time, so of course she was bound to pop up here and there when I was looking through some of my older drawings. πŸ™‚

tbt7

As a TBT post would imply, these are all pretty old drawings, but I personally enjoy looking back on the old stuff, flaws and all, just to remember what I enjoyed drawing at that point in my life and to see how my style has changed and evolved over the years. πŸ™‚ All of these were done with pencil, pen, and sharpie, my old go-to tools of the trade!

Throwback Thursday Illustrations

Woo! It’s almost Friday, guys! πŸ˜€ I’ve been really busy the past few days so I just wanted to pop in with a quick TBT art post.

This one’s a serious blast from the past. Probably did this about 10 years ago, I think.

10999804_10206946363918433_8197639843074377026_n
A much more recent piece. Probably just a couple years old, and it’s where my icon comes from! (Beetlejuice fan art of Lydia Deetz.)

218127_2008157124422_5933836_n
Fan art piece of Dr. Harleen Quinzel I did about 6 years ago.

Hope you guys have all been having a great week and have a fantastic weekend! ❀
