June Wrap-Up: A Month in Photos

Can you guys believe it’s already almost July?? It feels like June came and went in the blink of an eye somehow. I decided to do something a little different with this month’s wrap-up post, and showcase what I’ve been up to through mostly photos. 🙂

bailey

LAZY DAYS: As has been the case for much of the past few months, there’s been a lot of time at home. Here’s a pic of Bailey curled up for a little catnap in a pile of blankets. ❤ Rest assured, if there is a comfy spot she WILL find it and she WILL nap on it.

GARDENING: Hostas, Rhododendron, Columbine, Peonies, Poppies, Oh My! It was a good month for gardening and learning. We planted more lilies, new bushes, moved some stuff around, and did a lot of other outdoor projects.

BAKING: I finally slowed down my baking spree I had been on. 😛 I did, however, make a really yummy peanut butter ice cream pie (graham cracker crust, thin layer of hot fudge, Reese’s peanut butter ice cream with thin sheets of chocolate, whipped cream, Reese’s peanut butter sauce drizzle, and chopped up Reese’s cups as pictured above). I also baked another loaf of Garlic Cheddar Beer Bread (soooo good!) ❤

DRAWING: I’ve been on a drawing binge lately that you can check out on my Instagram if you’re interested, but here’s a little sample of what I’ve been up to this month. 🙂

work

WORK: I got to go to work a couple times (staff only) to start setting up for all of the social distancing/PPE changes we will have to put into effect upon our return. Also got to redecorate a little. Pictured above is the head start I got on one of my room’s bulletin boards. We’re supposed to return to work July 6th, but with COVID cases back on the rise, we’ll see what happens. We can’t open back up until our state enters Phase 5 of our reopening plan, and thankfully our Governor has been taking this very seriously since day 1 so I don’t think she’ll rush us into that until it is actually safe to do so.

LOSS OF A LOVED ONE: The pic above isn’t from this June, it’s actually from last year when we celebrated my parents’ pug BeeBee’s birthday party for her Sweet 16. ❤ She was such a sweet and adorable little dog and was so loved by our entire family, but unfortunately we were forced to say goodbye to her this June. It is sad not having her around anymore, but she lived such a good life while she was with us. She was adopted by my family a decade ago, and by that point she had already lived through a lot. BeeBee was a puppy mill survivor who didn’t even get to feel the grass beneath her paws for the first 3 years of her life. She was rescued from that awful situation and found a home for some time with a woman who loved her, but eventually her owner became too sick to be able to take care of her any longer. My mom was in contact with a woman from a pug rescue league and she told my mom about BeeBee and that was that. She came to us blind, but this was nothing daunting for our family. We’ve taken in several animals with special needs over the years and her inability to see was no big deal. She was sassy and fun, and my dad especially spoiled her with so much love and affection. She had a new brother and constant companion in my parent’s other pug, Brutis. They were attached at the hip and formed an instant bond with one another. ❤

She had the cutest little “bubble bark” that sounded more like “Borp Borp Borp” than the normal kind of bark you hear, loved being held, liked to adventure forward without a care in the world like she could see where she was going even if she was always bumping into things or barking in the wrong direction while trying to be “tough” like her brother. She preferred to be inside the house and wasn’t shy about making sure you knew it by finding her way back to the door and doing her little bubble bark to announce when she was “over this outdoors bullshit”. Haha

Her vet sent a very sweet card and a package of Forget-Me-Not seeds for my parents to plant and grow in BeeBee’s memory. ❤ I thought that was such a touching and thoughtful thing for the vet’s office to do.

That’s it for my own personal June Wrap-Up. How was your June?? Can you believe the year is already halfway over? With how 2020 has been going I’m sure we’re all hoping for a better second half of the year. As always, take care and be safe, guys!

It’s Raining Spiders and We’re Eating Butterflies

wamh1

Weird, messed-up dreams are nothing new to me. In fact, they’re kind of my specialty. Still, I’m going to assume sheer exhaustion resulted in this particularly bizarre dream, and not some subconscious desire to eat bugs because, well, no thank you.

bug1bug2

I rarely nap, but today I did and man, did my brain go bonkers. First of all, it started off like those dreams you see in horror movies where the character wakes up thinking it was all just a dream and then the killer pops up and gets them. Except in my case, I “woke up” in bed from what Dream Me thought was a nap (so a dream within a dream if you will) to see what looked like long white hairs gently falling down from the ceiling above me. Turned out those long white silky hairs were connected to baby spiders falling down from the ceiling by the hundreds. Needless to say, I lost my shit.

giphy

Untangling myself from the blankets, I sprung out of bed and ran out the door into some creepy dungeon that was covered in spider webs, egg sacs, etc. I mean, it was everywhere, to the point that I had to crawl and rip my way through it with spiders crawling all over the place. It was disgusting. 2fbf0f41eb93b1808c079b2d9da016a96752211ceed04cd00b1a3f3fb55e864e

While trying to make my way through the dungeon I saw my cat was there, too, and that she was batting at something in one of the matted spider webs: a gorgeous golden yellow butterfly. I can’t remember what Dream Me thought my mom would want with this particular butterfly, I just know that Dream Me knew she just had to have it. So I made my way through the spider-nastiness of the dungeon only to discover that in that time my cat had turned into my parents’ blind pug (not that Dream Me thought this was weird in any way, shape or form mind you.) Also, said pug was standing on a washing machine and promptly started eating the butterfly I felt my mom so desperately needed.

pug

After wrestling the butterfly free from the mouth of a hungry pug, I had my prize: one mangled butterfly covered in pug drool. Suddenly, looking down at the butterfly, Dream Me realizes the pug had the right idea, and I promptly begin eating what’s left of it, pug spit and all.

Then, like we’re in an episode of Pokemon, this butterfly begins to change into a bigger, badass butterfly / Japanese Hornet hybrid (if you don’t know already what a Japanese Hornet is, feel free to google it, just don’t hit the ‘Y’ key instead of the ‘T’ key while typing ‘hornet’ and wind up with a google image spread of porn. Typo fail true story.)

So, yeah, while Dream Me was choking and trying to pull some insect monstrosity out of my mouth, bit by bit (because of course it’s falling apart and simultaneously trying to crawl down my throat all at once) I finally wake up from this dream. Worst. Nap. EVER.

Anywhoooo, April’s been kind of a crazy month so far. This is only my second post of the month, and It’s been hard for me to find time to hop onto WP, but I’m hoping life will regain some normalcy in May. Apologies in advance if I’m sort of flaky this month with posting and commenting. Life is hectic at the moment with the new job/new house situation. Tell me how you’re doing, though! 😀 I miss getting to chat with all you awesome people more, so I’d love to hear how you’re doing and if you’ve got anything exciting going on. Feel free to leave a link below to any cool posts of yours you feel I may have missed recently. ❤

Halloween Pugs & Pumpkins

74565_1709554579545_4416303_n

Hey, guys! No, that’s not a picture of a goblin (although I do call him “my little goblin”), that is one of my parents’ pugs. I love taking cute photos of animals, although I will be the first to admit I am in no way a pro, but it’s fun and especially entertaining around the holidays. I thought I’d share some of my fave Halloween photos I’ve taken of the puggies from a couple years back.

Spooky pugs guarding the cemetery gates. I made the spooky graveyard for a halloween party a few years back. It was a lot of fun. I think this devilish little duo got just as much enjoyment with it as the party-goers did. 😛

Updates: Bees, Mermaids, Jogging, Science, Margaritas & Pugs!

BLARRRGH! So many things going on right now. It’s all good though, just a bit hectic. I’m multitasking like a beast right now at least, so that helps.

ec7f2de5daef18eb0e7260cc665dc5f0

It’s probably going to be a few days before I can get back to my blog and catch up on reading others’ posts since I’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me, so I figured I’d just pop in for some quick updates.

Update #1:

Remember my post about how Cheerios and Veseys Seeds teamed up to mail out millions of wildflower seeds to encourage people to plant them and help out with the lowered bee populations? Well, I checked the mail and discovered that they’d finally come! 😀 Huzzah! Looking forward to getting to plant them soon!

Update #2:

You know those big props with the holes in them that you stick your face up to . . . I swear I am not talking about a glory hole here, people. I mean those big standup photo prop images where you put your face through the hole to take a picture? Here’s a Ghostbusters one Cupcakes and Machetes and I used to take a photo with in case my terrible description still hasn’t made it clear what I’m babbling about.

C&M (on the left) and Me (on the right). “We came, we saw, we kicked its ass.”

Well, although mine I made was no where near as cool as this Ghostbusters one, I made one of these picture stand thingies! (I should really learn what they’re actually called.) A friend needed a mermaid one for her daughter’s birthday party, so here’s what I came up with for her. (Forgive the terrible quality of my kindle’s camera. The colors are a lot more vibrant in person, and this was before I used a blade to cut out the mermaid’s face hole. Which is definitely a phrase I never thought I would write.)

Update #3:

I’ve decided to take up jogging! Which is something I never thought I’d say. Even more so than “cutting out a mermaid’s face hole”. 😛 I usually prefer other types of workouts but it really wasn’t that bad. At least not as bad as I remember it being in high school gym class. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely feeling it in my legs, but it wasn’t as torturous as I’d expected it to be. My boyfriend was into running track and playing soccer in school so I asked him for some running tips, and I found that listening to music while doing so made it way more pleasurable of an experience. Well, as pleasurable as running can be, really.

Update #4:

Getting ready for my weekend out of town. I’m so excited! 🙂 Celebrating Cupcakes and Machetes’ dirty thirty birthday/margarita-fest! Book club! Participating in the local March for Science! There’s so much fun to be had. I’ve still gotta pack, wrap those presents, make her birthday dessert, and do what only feels like a million other things, but I’m really looking forward to hanging out with my friends. ❤

There’s plenty of other things going on that have really been keeping me busy, but I won’t bore you with the details, and besides, I still have a lot to work on before I head out of town tomorrow. So with that said, enjoy some pugs!

Cheeseburger Cat

As suggested by Forged From Reverie I have decided to share some pictures of my own furry companion after marveling at another adorable post about his trusty battle pug, Oghren. This was his ninth installment of “A Man and his Pug” and this one featured Oghren in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume. As if that wasn’t enough to make you want to go check it out, the post also discusses the pure joy it is to have a pug, a topic I can definitely get behind!

So, on that note, allow me to formally introduce you fine folks to my loving and faithful companion, Bailey. She’s a sweetheart, but is also capable of being a total crap sandwich when she wants to be. Seriously, I’ve got plenty of stories I could tell you. She’s great in the sense that she always uses her litter box and never scratches up the furniture, and very rarely has hairballs, but she’s got some major sass and attitude sometimes. Even then, it’s impossible to stay mad at her because the circumstances are usually more ridiculous than infuriating, anyway. I wouldn’t give her up for anything.

She makes a great sidekick. She even has an amazing burger costume she dons on occasion! Probably to fight crime or something. 😉
